Partay Time

Christmas is my favorite time of year.

There.  I said it.

I know, I hate the hurry and the bustle and the commercialization of it all just as much as anyone.  But really…God Incarnate, come to earth?

That’s worth celebrating.

We love decorating for Christmas, belting out Christmas music, decorating cookies, looking at Christmas lights, reading the Christmas books, playing our hearts out with the Nativity, exchanging gifts, building gingerbread houses…and so on.  And I think that all of it is worth doing.

But can I be honest?

I’m flat out tired.

Maybe it’s chasing kids all day, or getting up with the baby in the night, or juggling all the stuff on my plate…but the thought of adding all these good, fun, special activities on top of the laundry and dishes and cleaning and cooking and…it’s a lot.

I know you know what I mean.  And I’m about to hand you a secret weapon.  You ready?

Bring a friend (or two or three or a dozen) to knock out some of those things on your list.  This year, a couple of good friends and I had a crafting party, wherein we each brought some crafty gift to make (this year we went for the hot chocolate spoons with all kinds of deliciousness melted in, cute little jars of homemade taco mix, and swoon-worthy fizzing bath salts.  The glittery clothespin magnets will need to wait for next year…we didn’t get to those!)

The kids got to make their own crafts, and effectively wore each other out (helloooo to a good night’s sleep!!!)  And, the grandparent’s gifts are done.  The kiddos got to make their own melted crayon salt dough ornaments  and paint some beautiful ceramic ornaments that my smartypants friend picked up on clearance last January.

We all munched on delicious finger food.  We almost forgot to turn on the Christmas music, because we were too busy having a great time together.  Two really are better than one.

So, make your list…and grab some friends to help you check it twice.  I’m talking cookie decorating (or even baking) party, gift wrapping party, gingerbread house party…you get the idea: PARTAY TIME IN THE HOUSE!!!

AS I have said before, I can’t tell you how much I love being in contact with you. We probably have a better connection than we would have if we lived closer. Although, having you closer physically would certainly be something I could handle. Thank you for being so generous about sharing your life with all of us. LOVE YOU!!!
